Our Mission

Building a Christ-Centered Community for the Greater Good

At Zion, we aim to create an environment (through the help of the Holy Spirit) where people genuinely care for one another, are spiritually nurtured, and work together for the greater good.

Who We Are

Zion has a rich history that began in 1863 while located in the Butts County Pepperton Community. Records indicate that a group of 36 former slaves had been given permission by the white First Baptist Church where they attended to organize their own church following the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863. From the time of its inception to the present, Zion has stood as a beacon of light among the black community and all people of Jackson, Georgia. Throughout its rich history, many great leaders have graced the pulpit to help lead the church to prominence. Our number one goal is to be seen and not just heard, to exemplify the life that Christ lived for the glory of our Father in Heaven.

Our Beliefs

What We Believe

At Zion, we believe in the life-changing power of the Gospel, the authority of God’s Word, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we strive to live out our faith in love, service, and truth.

We believe Jesus is the central figure of the Christian faith - fully God and fully man, the Son of God who came into the world to save humanity from sin.  He is God's love in human form, the one who came not just to fix our problems but to fix our hearts, bring us into right relationship with God, and show us what love truly looks like.

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God - a sacred collection of writings through which God reveals Himself, His will, and His plan for humanity.  It's not just one book, but a library of 66 books, written by about 40 different authors over a span of approximately 1500 years, yet it carries one unified message.  The Bible is God's love letter to humanity, showing us where we came from, why we're here, and where we're going.  It is a roadmap for salvation, relationships, and transformation.

We believe in ONE GOD who exists in three distinct, co-equal, and co-eternal Persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit.  Though each Person of the Trinity has unique roles and functions, they are not three gods, but one in essence, nature, and being.
